Had some clarifying thoughts on Sunday’s message. It might shed a little light on what I was trying to communicate.
The main point of yesterday’s sermon was that Jesus is Life. Now, when Paul says “Jesus is life” he uses it to imply 2 different but valid meanings simultaneously. So let me try to explain those. In the first sense, “Jesus is life” in that he is the one around whom our lives revolve. He is at the center of our world. We give our life TO Jesus. That’s usually what most of us mean when or if you’ve ever said something similar. “Jesus is my life,” means, quite simply, he is the one we’re all about. And that’s easy enough to understand.
The second sense, however, is a bit unfamiliar to us.
